Earlier today, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina chaired a cabinet meeting which decided to grant official government recognition of people who gender identify as Hijras, people who identify as neither male nor female.

Recognition brings several government related benefits to Hijras including priority in education, housing and health. Their gender designation will also appear on their passports as Hijras. English language documents will refer to them as Hijras as the government claims any English translation would be misleading. The decision was announced by Cabinet Secretary Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan at a media briefing following the meeting.

Hijras already have voting rights in Bangladesh. A survey by the Ministry of Social Welfare says 10,000 people who identify as Hijras live in the country.

Better Control As Provided For By Anthem Luminous HAS And HIA Plans

When it comes to health care decisions, the consumer and you should be in charge with its direction. You as the consumer and the recipient of the health insurance from your provider should have a say on the healthcare and you should know the contents of the contract. Sadly a number of health insurance plan providers arent open to this and leave almost no room for individuals to properly control the direction of their healthcare.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTFbWYXajC4[/youtube]

But this time, shoppers of health insurance can find control in the form of plans as provided for by the Blue Cross of California. The provider named this as Lumenos HAS and HIA Plans, where the HIA means Health Incentive Account plan and the HAS as the Health Savings Account. This new offer from Blue Cross is actually a consumer-directed plan where it puts a premium on your decision. Instead of the health insurance firm making the decision for the patient, it is the individual and his doctor who makes the health decisions and the individual is in the driver seat. For California residents, they are offered with three Lumenos plans and they can enroll in one of the three plans. The first option is the Lumenos HAS and this is the Health Savings Account that let individuals save tax-free money in order to pay for the medical expenses. Individuals need not pay the taxes on the withdrawals as long as the funds are spent on a qualified medical expense. Individuals earn money in this kind of plan as the funds earn interest and the funds not spent for the year will be carried over to the account for next year. The Lumenos HIA is another option and in this plan, individuals get to have the Blue Cross sponsored account that will pay for the persons health expenses. The funds used in this plan are accumulated from rewards the moment the individual participates in the wellness programs of the provider like the weight management program. The last Lumenos program of the provider is the Lumenos HIA Plus. Its the Health Incentive Account Plus. This comes with a bonus- an extra $500 a year to the account. An extra $1000 for families will be given. The moment the individual meets the required deductible, the Lumenos plans will then include 100 percent coverage for a number of health-related needs. Covered here include the individuals visit to his doctor, the in-patient hospital services, maternity care and even prescription drugs. For those individuals who get the services of any of the Lumenos plans, these individuals will be given access to the Blue Cross health management website- a well known health management website. The website for all recipients of the Lumenos plans will be given access to the Nurse Advice Line which is a phone call away and can be accessed any time of the day. This dedicated line can address pertinent questions from individuals. A Personal Health Coach Program is provided for that can assist individuals in their needs. By introducing these plans, Blue Cross of California has managed to put forward choices for residents in the area.

A woman found herself £226,000 richer, one the biggest ever payouts to a female client, after placing a series of bets on last weeks Champions League games, despite knowing nothing about football.

Kathrin Rotmann, 33, placed a £1,000 bet based on her tactics of supporting “teams that are strong and winning”.

“I am delighted. I only ever bet on football — last year I won £35,000 with one bet. I just keep a track of those teams which are playing well and bet on them. It was very exciting when the results went my way.”

She was delighted when she saw her bet multiply in front of her eyes, when her 226-1 odds of wins for Arsenal, Man United, Rangers, Slavia Prague, Barcelona, Roma, Fenerbahce and PSV come in on television.

The exact amount won was £226,834.36.

The world’s most expensive hotel-casino ever has opened in Las Vegas, Nevada. The casino, which was designed and built over a period of five years, cost US$2.7 billion to construct. The hotel stands nearly fifty stories above the Las Vegas valley, with a 180-foot tall mountain in front of the main entrance.

Numerous lavish touches contributed to the high expense of the development. The sign in front of the Wynn property has an unusual mechanical design, with a large piece containing the Wynn logo, which can move vertically up or down as different announcements are presented.

“I think it’s going to start a shift of power. It’s been the south for a long time. Things will start moving to the north because of Wynn Las Vegas, Sheldon Adelson with the expansion of the Venetian, the New Frontier — that whole area will become the new hot area of Las Vegas for the next decade or so,” gaming expert Anthony Curtis told Las Vegas KLAS TV.

As the property opened to the public, developer Steve Wynn greeted visitors at the front entrance.

“It’s always fascinating to watch people enter the thing and get their first moment after we open the doors,” Wynn told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

File:WynnSign.JPG

Analysts are not too concerned about the cost of the Wynn development. Wynn paid off the cost of The Mirage hotel-casino in 18 months, much earlier than the planned seven years for which the debt had been scheduled for repayment.

“If you remember the opening of The Mirage in 1989, Wynn needed to make a nut of $1 million a day. Everyone thought he was nuts; ‘couldn’t be done,’ they all said,” Las Vegas history department Chairman Hal Rothman told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Wynn sold his interest in Mirage Resorts to MGM Grand (which became MGM Mirage and is now run by Kirk Kerkorian) for US$6.4 billion back in 2000, then turned around and purchased the property for the Wynn hotel-casino for US$275 million. The property was previously the home of the Desert Inn.

The hotel has 2,359 rooms, and a few hundred deluxe suites and “parlors” for high rollers. The casino has 1,960 slot machines and 137 table games on a 111,000 square foot casino floor. A FerrariMaserati dealership and the Le Reve stage show, featuring a million gallon water tank, round out the expensive offerings.

A round of golf will go for US$500 on the elaborate golf course located behind the main building.

All of these specifications add up to a record construction cost of over one million US dollars per room. Other expensive Las Vegas properties cost a fraction of the price, such as the Bellagio, which cost half the price at US$533,000 per room. The most expensive hotel property in the world was previously the Grand Wailea Resort in Maui, Hawaii, which cost US$775,000 per room.

“Yes, (Wynn) may be in over his head, but then he has found ways to survive before,” Las Vegas professor Bill Thompson told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Several of Wynn’s largest competitors spoke with admiration of the property and looked forward to its impact on Las Vegas.

“I’ve never understood the hand-wringing about something new, especially in Las Vegas and Atlantic City,” Harrah’s Chairman and CEO Gary Loveman told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Other casino bosses from the Mandalay and the MGM Mirage had positive comments as well, hoping to pick up some new business from the development.

“It’s a positive in terms of bringing more visitors,” Mandalay Resort Group President and CEO Glenn Schaeffer told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“Steve will build a great property and bring new people to town. If we’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing, then we’ll pick up some of that business also,” MGM Mirage Chairman and CEO Terry Lanni told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Thousands of visitors gathered for hours in front of the property before it opened. Security guards had to monitor the number of visitors entering the building.

“I think it’s spectacular,” David Schwartz, coordinator of the Gaming Studies Research Center at the University of Nevada Las Vegas told Reuters.

“People were pushing and shoving,” Las Vegan Kathie Anderson told Associated Press.

“There is nobody in the world who creates such entertaining and beautiful casinos,” British billionaire Richard Branson told Associated Press from the casino floor. “I would say every other casino must be nervous. He’s lifted the bar dramatically,” Branson said.

“This would be hard to top,” Las Vegan Marlene DeMarco told Reuters.

Original Story
  • “Hotel development proposal could displace Buffalo, NY business owners” — Wikinews, February 17, 2006

Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Buffalo, New York —The preliminary hearing for a lawsuit against the Elmwood Village Hotel proposal has been pushed back to August 10, 2006.

The hotel would require the demolition of at least five properties owned by Hans Mobius, 1109-1121 Elmwood and would cause the closure of several businesses. Already, two businesses, Skunk Tail Glass and Six Nations Native American Gift Shop have relocated, outside the Elmwood Strip. Don apparel, H.O.D. Tattoo and Mondo Video still remain on Elmwood; however, Mondo Video is planning on moving to a new location. The hotel will be 72 rooms and will cost at least 7 million dollars to build. Savarino Construction Services Corporation would be in charge of building the hotel and Wyndham Hotels would operate it.

Attorney Arthur Giacalone says that the court date was pushed back because “the court apparently felt it did not make sense to proceed with oral argument on 7/27 if Savarino is going to re-start the process.” Giacalone also stated that the decision to adjourn until August 10 “was not my idea.” On July 13, 2006 Savarino announced that they were withdrawing the proposal to “resubmit” it to “shed the lawsuits” against the proposal.

Savarino was allegedly supposed to resubmit the proposal by the end of last week but so far has not done so. The final meeting of Buffalo’s Common Council for the summer occurred today. The Council will not meet again until September.

“If they [Savarino] took no action today, re the hotel, [that is, accepting the new application, or rescinding the prior rezoning resolution], nothing official will happen for the next 6 weeks or so,” added Giacalone also saying that if this is the case, “the court may not be willing to hear oral argument on 8/10 since we will still be up in the air about what’s going on.” Giacalone also states that he is unsure about “what they [the Common Council] did today.”

Despite the call for a “do-over” of the proposals process, Giacalone still states that his client’s position of the “pending lawsuit will not be ‘moot’ or ‘academic’ unless and until the Common Council rescinds its prior vote(s) that approved the rezoning” for the buildings on Elmwood and one property on Forest Avenues.

Sam Savarino, CEO of Savarino Construction has been contacted, but has not replied to any e-mails. Area councilman Joseph Golombeck has also been e-mailed, but also has not replied.

Were you disapproved from your recent loan application? You are also definitely likely to be disapproved by banks and other companies if you have been already blacklisted. A lot of people find it desperate to reapply for another loan because of a marred credit reputation. Basically, you cannot run to banks and other reputed lending companies because they are just likely to turn you down anyway. Don’t fret about that! There’s still a way of getting through that. Don’t think that it’s all too hopeless for you. There is still something you can do on that. You just have to know the necessary steps that you can take in order to get a personal loan though you are already blacklisted.

As you may be aware, there are different types of loans. There are secured ones and there also unsecured. If you would be asking for a secured loan, there is a huge chance of getting turned down with the loan application. This is because the bank and other lending companies are very particular with the checking and assessment of your credit reputation. They will most definitely also be asking you a property for collateral. So, it would be best if you apply for an unsecured loan. There will be no collateral rendered and the loan policies in it are much lenient.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZXM_g3mqew[/youtube]

The application process is not that fussy and it would be just easy for you to get an approval. However, unsecured loans do not entail just the positive side. Like any other loans, it has its own set of pitfalls. Since this is an unsecured one, lenders have to charge high interest rates because there is no security over the money that they invested. However, you can still take the bait especially if you are in dire need of cash right away. This is because their loan application process is very light and you won’t be asked about a lot of things. You will just be going to present some pertinent information and your capacity to pay will somehow be gauged but you don’t have to worry, there’s a huge chance of getting their approval. Apart from that, they also dole out more privilege to their borrowers because you can submit necessary credentials via electronic mail. So, you don’t have to be physically present at their office at all times.

However, you should also be aware of loan sharks. These are the people who charge you with really high interest rates and you will just end up finding yourself in big trouble. It is suggested that you look for those micro lenders which are accredited and registered. This is in order for you to make sure that your loan is still a perfectly safe one and you don’t have to fret with its possible troubles in the near future. It is really relieving to know that you still have the chance of getting a loan approval despite of already having been blacklisted. After all, getting a personal loan even if you’re already blacklisted isn’t all that difficult as you may think.

A report accidentally published on the Internet provides insight into a secretive European Union surveillance project designed to monitor its citizens, as reported by Wikileaks earlier this month. Project INDECT aims to mine data from television, internet traffic, cellphone conversations, p2p file sharing and a range of other sources for crime prevention and threat prediction. The €14.68 million project began in January, 2009, and is scheduled to continue for five years under its current mandate.

INDECT produced the accidentally published report as part of their “Extraction of Information for Crime Prevention by Combining Web Derived Knowledge and Unstructured Data” project, but do not enumerate all potential applications of the search and surveillance technology. Police are discussed as a prime example of users, with Polish and British forces detailed as active project participants. INDECT is funded under the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), and includes participation from Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Indicated in the initial trial’s report, the scope of data collected is particularly broad; days of television news, radio, newspapers, and recorded telephone conversations are included. Several weeks of content from online sources were agglomerated, including mining Wikipedia for users’ and article subjects’ relations with others, organisations, and in-project movements.

Watermarking of published digital works such as film, audio, or other documents is discussed in the Project INDECT remit; its purpose is to integrate and track this information, its movement within the system and across the Internet. An unreleased promotional video for INDECT located on YouTube is shown to the right. The simplified example of the system in operation shows a file of documents with a visible INDECT-titled cover taken from an office and exchanged in a car park. How the police are alerted to the document theft is unclear in the video; as a “threat”, it would be the INDECT system’s job to predict it.

Throughout the video use of CCTV equipment, facial recognition, number plate reading, and aerial surveillance give friend-or-foe information with an overlaid map to authorities. The police proactively use this information to coordinate locating, pursuing, and capturing the document recipient. The file of documents is retrieved, and the recipient roughly detained.

Technology research performed as part of Project INDECT has clear use in countering industrial and international espionage, although the potential use in maintaining any security and predicting leaks is much broader. Quoted in the UK’s Daily Telegraph, Liberty’s director, Shami Chakrabarti, described a possible future implementation of INDECT as a “sinister step” with “positively chilling” repercussions Europe-wide.

“It is inevitable that the project has a sensitive dimension due to the security focussed goals of the project,” Suresh Manandhar, leader of the University of York researchers involved in the “Work Package 4” INDECT component, responded to Wikinews. “However, it is important to bear in mind that the scientific methods are much more general and has wider applications. The project will most likely have lot of commercial potential. The project has an Ethics board to oversee the project activities. As a responsible scientists [sic] it is of utmost importance to us that we conform to ethical guidelines.”

Although Wikinews attempted to contact Professor Helen Petrie of York University, the local member of Project INDECT’s Ethics board, no response was forthcoming. The professor’s area of expertise is universal access, and she has authored a variety of papers on web-accessibility for blind and disabled users. A full list of the Ethics board members is unavailable, making their suitability unassessable and distancing them from public accountability.

One potential application of Project INDECT would be implementation and enforcement of the U.K.’s “MoD Manual of Security“. The 2,389-page 2001 version passed to Wikileaks this month — commonly known as JSP-440, and marked “RESTRICTED” — goes into considerable detail on how, as a serious threat, investigative journalists should be monitored, and effectively thwarted; just the scenario the Project INDECT video could be portraying.

When approached by Wikinews about the implications of using INDECT, a representative of the U.K.’s Attorney General declined to comment on legal checks and balances such a system might require. Further U.K. enquiries were eventually referred to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, who have not yet responded.

Wikinews’ Brian McNeil contacted Eddan Katz, the International Affairs Director for the Electronic Frontier Foundation (E.F.F.). Katz last spoke to Wikinews in early 2008 on copyright, not long after taking his current position with the E.F.F. He was back in Brussels to speak to EU officials, Project INDECT was on his agenda too — having learned of it only two weeks earlier. Katz linked Project INDECT with a September report, NeoConopticon — The EU Security-Industrial Complex, authored by Ben Hayes for the Transnational Institute. The report raises serious questions about the heavy involvement of defence and IT companies in “security research”.

On the record, Katz answered a few questions for Wikinews.

((WN)) Is this illegal? Is this an invasion of privacy? Spying on citizens?

Eddan Katz When the European Parliament issued the September 5, 2001 report on the American ECHELON system they knew such an infrastructure is in violation of data protection law, undermines the values of privacy and is the first step towards a totalitarian surveillance information society.

((WN)) Who is making the decisions based on this information, about what?

E.K. What’s concerning to such a large extent is the fact that the projects seem to be agnostic to that question. These are the searching systems and those people that are working on it in these research labs do search technology anyway. […] but its inclusion in a database and its availability to law enforcement and its simultaneity of application that’s so concerning, […] because the people who built it aren’t thinking about those questions, and the social questions, and the political questions, and all this kind of stuff. [… It] seems like it’s intransparent, unaccountable.

The E.U. report Katz refers to was ratified just six days before the September 11 attacks that brought down the twin towers of the World Trade Center. In their analysis of the never-officially-recognised U.S. Echelon spy system it states, “[i]n principle, activities and measures undertaken for the purposes of state security or law enforcement do not fall within the scope of the EC Treaty.” On privacy and data-protection legislation enacted at E.U. level it comments, “[such does] not apply to ‘the processing of data/activities concerning public security, defence, state security (including the economic well-being of the state when the activities relate to state security matters) and the activities of the state in areas of criminal law'”.

Part of the remit in their analysis of Echelon was rumours of ‘commercial abuse’ of intelligence; “[i]f a Member State were to promote the use of an interception system, which was also used for industrial espionage, by allowing its own intelligence service to operate such a system or by giving foreign intelligence services access to its territory for this purpose, it would undoubtedly constitute a breach of EC law […] activities of this kind would be fundamentally at odds with the concept of a common market underpinning the EC Treaty, as it would amount to a distortion of competition”.

Ben Hayes’ NeoConoptiocon report, in a concluding section, “Following the money“, states, “[w]hat is happening in practice is that multinational corporations are using the ESRP [European Seventh Research Programme] to promote their own profit-driven agendas, while the EU is using the programme to further its own security and defence policy objectives. As suggested from the outset of this report, the kind of security described above represents a marriage of unchecked police powers and unbridled capitalism, at the expense of the democratic system.”

Computer security experts warn that a malicious computer worm, dubbed “Kama Sutra,” is set to wreak havoc this Friday, February 3rd on Microsoft Windows computers worldwide. Kama Sutra is designed to destroy files that end in .doc, .zip and .pdf.

The Kama Sutra worm has been spreading through cyberspace since January 16, packaged in emails with subject headings such as: “give me a kiss” and “crazy illegal sex.”

When users click an email attachment, their PCs become infected with destructive, self-replicating software. The worm affects Microsoft Windows operating systems and is programmed to go to work on the third of every month, overwriting or corrupting Microsoft files and others such as Portable Document Format (PDF) files.

“This one can damage your office files, your Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and your PowerPoint presentations,” Tino Klironomos, a computer retailer, said. “(The files will be) all gone, history.”

Computer security company LURHQ reports that there may be hundreds of thousands of machines already infected with the worm, which also goes by the monikers “BlackWorm,” “CME-24,” “Blackmal,” “Mywife.E” and “Nyxem.”

To prevent the worm, Windows users should arm themselves with anti-virus software. People can also protect their PC with up-to-date anti-virus gear and firewall protection. Free anti-virus tools are available from many anti-virus organisations. These tools can detect and remove the Kama Sutra worm from an infected machine.

Experts say: “Make sure your virus definitions are up to date. Besides being careful about opening email messages and attachments, users should back up their most valuable computer files on an external device such as a CD, zip drive or DVD.”

Steve Bass at PC World says: “Stop worrying. If you update your virus program signatures regularly, and do a weekly AV scan, I don’t think you have much to worry about…”

Other advice is not to open any messages with the subject headers “crazy, illegal sex”, “give me a kiss” and “hot movie.”

The worm will not affect machines running on non-Windows operating systems such as Mac OS X or GNU/Linux.

Many security systems reported a very small amount of vandalism, even though the threats were very high.

Have you ever wondered who conducts the detailed medical laboratory testing for your glucose levels, cholesterol levels, or RT-PCR and analyzes the results? These professionals have always been here, saving numerous lives, but in the background.

Who are Medical Lab Technicians?

Medical Laboratory Technicians are health professionals concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases through the use of clinical laboratory tests. These paramedical healthcare professionals belong to the field of allied health sciences. Other personnel like radiography technicians, operation theatre technicians (OTT) etc., also belong to the same group.

The 2020 crisis and the role of MLT

Since Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) first emerged in December 2019, the disease has evolved into a pandemic overnight. As soon as the causative pathogen, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), was identified, a laboratory diagnosis was established and has played an essential role in confirming a clinical diagnosis of COVID -19. Additional laboratory biochemical tests, including monitoring the change in blood cells, coagulation, liver function, cardiac markers, and inflammatory responses, are also critical in combating COVID-19. With the increase in the number of patients and number of asymptomatic cases, clinical laboratories are facing enormous challenges in:

-adopting diagnostic approaches that can rapidly and accurately identify infected persons and

-adopting strategies that can detect disease progression allowing stratification of suffering patients for appropriate care.

These are urgently needed and highlight the requirement of laboratory technicians in combating COVID-19.

MLTs provide up to 70 percent of patients’ laboratory testing to physicians so they can provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

A study concluded that 94 percent of the objective medical data in the patient record comes from laboratory technicians. While the world screams for “more tests” during the SARSCoV2 pandemic, most of us would agree that our largest hurdle to help our patients is the lack of medical lab technicians who conduct these numerous tests.

Moreover, people do not stop having heart disease, diabetes, influenza infections, pregnancies, just because of a single virus spreading the world over. So, these tests also need to be done on a regular basis.

So with the appearance of such an unprecedented situation, the worth of MLT has risen and has shifted the world’s focus on Medical Laboratory Technicians.

  • These MLT professionals are juggling dozens and dozens of tests, and play the role of quality inspector. As if the specimen is not collected correctly by a nurse, phlebotomist, doctor, or another professional, the laboratory test will not be valid.
  • The spread of COVID-19 is due to a lack of testing or patient awareness. That positive or negative result impacts patient responses in our communities and the isolation protocols. These can minimize the spread of the disease. Testing hence has an impact far beyond a positive or negative confirmation of COVID-19 for many individuals.
  • Medical laboratory technicians spend countless hours collecting, conducting, correlating, and validating tests. There are very strict rules and policies that must be followed in the lab to ensure the right result is reported out on the right patient. Many laboratories invest in accreditation programs and continued proficiency testing to ensure the staff performs tests in accordance with laboratory procedures and guidelines. Due to the critical nature of what they do, labs are highly regulated and require medical technologists and technicians to obtain education qualifications, certifications, and continued training for error-free performance.
  • They even make sure that the equipment performs the tests accurately.
  • The workload for many labs has dramatically increased due to COVID-19 testing. The increase in demand has burdened the labs to add instrumentation and reporting mechanisms and implement additional procedures and staff training. Both manufacturers and laboratories are working to meet the clinical demands imposed by this pandemic.
  • A patient never meets the medical laboratory professionals who spend hours determining their test results. The lab and technicians have always been there, behind the scenes, supporting patient care teams.

This current global pandemic highlights the key role that laboratorians play in the entire healthcare space and how critical it is in patient-care and emphasizes the shortage of medical laboratory technicians and the respect they deserve.

What does a Medical Laboratory Technician do?

  • Collects, stores, and preserves samples of blood and other bodily fluids.
  • Analysis and examines bodily fluids.
  • Determines the level of chemicals in the Urine.
  • Matches blood samples for effective transfusions in case of emergency and trauma
  • Maintain the lab equipment.
  • Are responsible for biomedical waste management
  • Quality control based on NABL regulations has to be taken care of by them.
  • Evaluate different blood cells & diagnose the changes or pathology therein.
  • Conducts biochemistry tests to measure blood composition, hormones, enzymes, and drug levels
  • Microbiological identification of various pathogens affecting the human body including all viruses, bacteria, and other disease-causing pathogens.

In general, the medical lab technologists assist and help the doctors reach a confirmed diagnosis and devise an appropriate treatment plan. MLT can be called the doctor’s doctor.

Job opportunities

  • Hospitals, labs, diagnostic centers, nursing homes.
  • Academics – college and universities
  • Medical writing
  • International health services (Red Cross Society)
  • Government health services
  • Blood banks
  • Forensic labs
  • Clinical research laboratories
  • Applications specialists
  • Veterinary hospitals
  • NGOs
  • Private ventures (Entrepreneurship) or outsourced service providers.

Remuneration

At the trainee level, executives can directly join a laboratory or a hospital and earn somewhere between Rs.10,000 to Rs 20,000 per month. With experience, one can earn between Rs 30,000 to Rs 40.000. The senior technologists earn more than Rs 40,000.

In addition to this, many employers offer healthcare benefits and other allowances to their employees.

How to become a Medical Laboratory Technologist?

To become a part of this healthcare workforce there are programs of varying durations available;

  • Diploma program (DMLT)- 1year duration- with 5 months of internship
  • Advanced diploma program in medical lab technology (ADMLT)- 2 years duration – with 6 months of internship
  • Bachelors in medical lab technology (BMLT)- 3 years duration-with 6 months to a one-year internship.

Most of the paramedical programs including Certificate and Diploma programs are offered at Virohan institute of health and management sciences.

Eligibility Criteria

To take admission in DMLT, ADMLT, or B.Sc. MLT in India you must have passed Class 12 with at least 50% score in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry as main subjects from a recognized board/university.

Course curriculum

The curriculum equips the learner with knowledge-based as well as soft skills. It is so devised that the students are entirely transformed into responsible professionals at the end of the course with an in-depth knowledge of the basic functioning and structures of the body, the knowledge of diseases, and the vast knowledge of pathogens and pathological conditions they can cause.
